Prof. Michael Bauer

Prof. Michael Bauer is Vice Chair of the Clinic for Anaesthesiology and Intensive Therapy in the Clinical Centre of the FSU, Jena. He is a member of the Shock Society (United States), the European Shock Society (ESS) as well as the German Society for Anaesthesiology and Intensive Therapy. His main research activities focus on the fields of stress, shock, trauma and sepsis. Prof. Bauer works on the gene expression of stress in hemorrhagic and septic shock as well as on the relation between redox-sensitive transcription factors and cellular stress response. He also studies the immune modulation through operative trauma and anaesthesia as well as investigates the relative contribution of necrosis and apoptosis to the cell destruction with shock and sepsis. Prof. Bauer has written a large number of publications on shock, trauma and sepsis. Moreover, he is inventor on several patents on sepsis.
