SIRS-Lab wins Innovation Award

Jena, November 16, 2007 SIRS-Lab’s proprietary technology incorporated in VYOO and LOOXSTER resulted from the close R&D network of the company. Together with the University Hospital Jena and the University of Applied Science Jena, the company developed these assets which received the federal Innovation Award of Thuringia.The award especially values the close cooperation between SME based and academic research in Thuringia's cutting edge Sepsis cluster.

The Jury, consisting of high representatives from science and business organizations, justifies its decision and "values the intense and goal-oriented exchange of Know-How. The cooperation resulted in a clinical diagnostic system for severe bloodstream infections. This product will be an essential step to reduce the threat of sepsis. A long-term cooperation between all partners was the starting point."

Core of the awarded project is especially the concentration of fungal DNA by SIRS-Lab's LOOXSTER. With this innovation, the sample preparation kit can efficiently concentrate bacterial and fungal DNA. Afterwards, the pathogens can be detected. Both steps are combined in the pathogen detection system VYOO. The project shows that the fruitful cooperation of SIRS-Lab with its long term partners in the University Hospital Jena and the University of Applied Science Jena leads to products ready for the market.
